Roti buaya

(Crocodile Bread)

Roti buaya is a traditional sweet bread originating from Jakarta. The sweetened bread is prepared in the shape of a crocodile and it's a staple at traditional Betawi weddings as it symbolizes faithfulness and toughness. The basic ingredients for this sweet bread include flour, sugar, margarine or butter, salt, yeast, eggs, and milk.

Although the original version is available in plain and sweet flavor, nowadays roti buaya is also flavored with vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, and coffee. This sweet bread is in high demand after Ramadhan, in the month of Syawal, which is known as the celebration month for the Muslims.
