Ghemme | Local Wine Appellation From Province of Novara, Italy | TasteAtlas

Ghemme

The wines produced in Ghemme wine region are primarily based on the renowned Nebbiolo grapes, with the only permitted addition of local Vespolina or Bonarda. These ruby red wines are characterized by good acidity and firm tannins, while they usually display aromas of red and black fruit, with earthy, subtle notes of spices, balsamic vinegar, and tobacco.

Ghemme is an age-worthy wine, and according to regulations, it must be aged for a minimum of 34 months. Maturation softens the tannins, creating balanced wines that preserve its robust and powerful character. They are a perfect match to game or braised red meat, mushroom or wine risottos, and pasta dishes served with rich ragù sauces, as well as rustic, classic dishes from Piedmont.
