Touton is a small pancake made by frying bread dough in pork fat, butter, or both. It is a staple of Newfoundland cuisine that is traditionally served for breakfast, either with fruit jam or molasses. Due to their bread-like texture, toutons can also be topped with savory ingredients, or split and used as a sandwich base.
“Classic Cafe East on Duckworth Street has awesome toutons for cheap.”
“Light fluffy toutons and baked beans and we can certainly see why this meal is their most popular.”
“I have gotten toutons after the bar and loved every bite.”
“Add an extra drizzle of molasses on top and the result is the perfect molasses-to-touton ratio, and a purely delicious mouthful with every bite.”
