Optional ingredients include chicken, beef, bamboo shoots, tuna, chestnuts, clams, seaweed, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and peas. The rice is soaked, drained, mixed with the rest of the ingredients, and the dish is then cooked until everything is tender.
