Melrose Apples | Local Apple Variety From Ohio, United States of America | TasteAtlas

Melrose apples

Melrose is an American apple variety that was developed in Ohio as a cross between Jonathan and Red Delicious. It's also the official apple of the state. The apples have a yellow-green skin streaked with red. The texture of the flesh is firm, juicy, and coarse, while the flavor is sweet, tart, and slightly acidic, becoming more aromatic and flavorful with age.

Available from late fall to early winter, Melrose apples are typically used in desserts such as cobblers and pies. When sliced, it can be added to tarts and pizzas. These apples can also be cooked in a variety of savory dishes as they hold their shape well when cooked.
