"Step up to the banco, scan the chalkboards for the lists of wines (whites on the left, reds are on the right), then choose from the myriad cicchetti (meat, tuna, or eggplant croquettes; crostini and panini with imaginative combos of radicchio, artichokes, fish, soppressa, ossocollo, and more) in the glass case."

"It’s the smallest wine bar in Venice and it is famous for serving delicious Ciccheti (small dishes). Located by the famous Rialto market, it is the perfect stop to regain strength with a fresh seafood dish."

"One of the smallest bars in Venice, Al Merca delivers a delicious one-two combination of wine and cicchetti."

"This small bacaro doesn’t provide any space inside to its customers, but the high quality of the cichetti and wine, paired with an extremely competitive price, appeals to the locals as well as to visitors who, while standing, want to experience a quick and good aperitif."

"As one of the smallest and most popular wine bars in Venice, this hole-in-the-wall bacaro serves a simple but delicious selection of Venetian cicchetti and great regional Italian wines and proseccos by the glass."

"This gem is perfect for a late breakfast/early lunch after visiting nearby Rialto Market. A hole-in-the-wall with a few stools, excellent coffee, grappa and tiny panini (meltingly sweet lardo on crunchy little rolls is my pick)."

"If you love panini you also have to try Al Mercà. It's a very small place, I have discovered it recently by accident, but the spritz is excellent and panini are tremendous."

"The food is limited but surprisingly good and very distinctive - Al Merca specializes in little crusty panini made with good bread and serious ingredients."

"We where there at the end of the Covid restrictions so the whole Venice was almost empty. But in front of Al Merca was line, that says everything! Paninis are perfect, and with price of 1 euro you can try different types."
