Arkansas Black is an American apple variety that was discovered in 1870 in Benton County, Arkansas. These apples are small and their color may vary from dark red to deep dark purple, almost black. On the inside, the pulp is bright golden or white to cream.
The texture is crisp and dense. After it's been picked, the apple is very hard, but it ripens after being picked. Arkansas Black apples are very aromatic and their flavor is sweet-tart, with hints of pear-like aromas. It is recommended to use them in stuffings and pies, but you can also make great ciders and apple butter with these visually attractive apples.
